One thing worth noticing
From a distance, a building can seem to be a single gesture. In this photograph of DDP, the passage draws the eye upward, toward a bright opening in the sky.
Then the joins begin to register. Lines turn across the surface. Perforations give some panels a different density. Light reveals the assembly beneath the apparent fluidity.
The builder, Samsung C&T, records 45,133 external aluminium panels. That number gives a useful counterpoint to the impression of one continuous skin.
Our invitation: follow one seam before taking in the whole. Sometimes the most revealing part of a design is the place where its pieces meet.
